Actually, S.M.S would probably be a more apt title for this post, Save My Skin!
To give you a bit of background info, when I was about 10/11, I developed serious acne. As anyone who's experienced acne will tell you, it was absolutely devastating. I became cripplingly shy and really hated myself for a while. I refused to go to the doctors out of embarrassment, even though it had gotten so bad that there wasn't a spot free patch on my entire face. Looking back now, i'm thankful I wasn't bullied, or picked on because of it, and my heart goes out to people who are/were, because that must make it about a million times worse.
Anyway, eventually I went to the doctors, and got prescribed different tablets and creams, although nothing really worked until I went on the pill. I've since had about 4 years of my skin being okay. I'ts wasn't perfect, I still had redness and a few scars, and did tend to break out around certain times of the month, but it was never a very extreme break out.
Until now. I don't know what's caused it, but my face is a mess! I've got so many spots, and more are appearing every day!
I think some of it must be stress related, I've recently turned 20 and have been trying to sort my life out, which is stressful I can tell you! I've been working alot and worrying about money, especially now that it's christmas, and I think that has sent my skin a bit loopy.
I've toned down my skincare, I'm using Elizabeth Arden 2 in 1 cleanser twice a day because it's really gentle and takes off my makeup, Garnier pure active exfo-brusher wash because it has salicylic acid, and Lush's Grease Lightning on spots. My problem is that, althought covered in spots, my skin is dry.
I feel the need to use heavy moisturisers to combat the dryness, but I worry about causing more spots. And things that are designed for spots, tend to dry out my face!
I'm stuck in a bit of a cycle, and it's getting me in a right tizz!
I've been using the Monu soothing touch recovery balm, which I got in my Glossybox, as it's for stressed skin, and helps to relieve irritation and inflammation.
Basically, the point of this post is just to ask if anyone has any advice, or product recommendations for my skin? I was thinking of trying the Avene range, as that is really gentle, but I'm not sure.
So, if you have a similar skin type or problem as me, or any suggestions for products that work on spots, but don't cause dryness, or work on dryness but don't cause spots, please let me know!
OMG I had the same problem! When I went on the pill it was like there had never been a problem! I went off a few years ago and it hasn't been as bad as it was, but it still pops up occasionally. I use clean & clear astringent and spot treatment, but it casues some dryness. I recently got the PMD microdermabrator and I'm hoping that will help!
ReplyDeleteHi Ruby,
ReplyDeleteFirstly I feel your pain, when your skins playing up, it can really get you down.
I have oily/combination skin, that has dry patches in the winter, basically its a real pain in the arse, so here's what I use, and would recommend.
Wash you face daily with the Neutrogena wave tool, and pads. You can pick it up for under a tenner with refills online. It massages your skin, and gets the circulation going, I notice a huge difference when I use it.
If my skins feeling spotty, I add a little Superdrug Tea Tree Face Wash to the pad.
After washing I cleanse my face with the Superdrug Tea Tree Cleanser and Toner on a cotton wool pad.
I then apply Superdrug Tea Tree Moisturiser to my face. This moisturiser is amazing, leaves your skin soft, and doesn't clog your skin or break you out, and it's only £2.99.

If I have any spots, I'll apply Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment cream and dab it on.
A couple of times a week, depending on how my skin is I'll use LUSH Love Lettuce Face Mask.
This mask will be perfect for your skin, reduces redness, oiliness and exfoliates. I wrote a wee review on it here.

OH! Never use face/baby wipes to take off your makeup, not sure if you do or not, but they are actually really bad for your skin. Try using a hot cloth cleanser, I use Superdrug's Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser.
(Not advertising Superdrug btw, just happen to love their own brand).
I hope I've helped, and please let me know how you get on. It may take a few weeks for you skin to adjust, but in the mean time, just drink plenty of water.
Try to give you skin a break from make-up a couple of days a week, if you can.
Good luck,
Max
