Soap and Glory Flake Away Review.

Hey Guys,
Hope you all had an amazing christmas!

Quick review for you here :)
Recently I've been noticing that little bumps have been appearing on my legs and arms, a result of never exfoliating my body! I've got no excuse, I've got a small collection of body scrubs, I'm just too lazy to keep at it for more than a few days! I received a small (50ml) tub of Soap and Glory Flake Away for my birthday and have been using it for a few weeks. Usually I'd have preferred to have been using it for about a month before I made up my mind and did a review- but from the first use I knew how I felt about this product. I hate it.

Let me start with the one thing I like about it- the consistency.
I like my scrubs to be full of grains, sort of a paste like texture. I dont't like scrubs which are like a body wash, but with a few bits in it. The Flake Away is a really thick, grain filled paste, which is great.
Unfortunately, the negatives far outway the one positive. The main problem I have with this scrub, is the fact it leaves a greasy layer on the skin after you've used it. I hate the feeling it leaves, as I feel I'm not truly clean after my bath/shower.

If I scrape my nail across my arm after using this, the product collects under my nails...not nice! It also means that any moisturisers I use after don't sink in aswell because of the layer left. The smell also lingers for ages and interferes with anything I put on after.
Which brings me on to another point- the smell. It's not unpleasant, but reminds me of something I wore when I was in my early teens, and keeps giving me flashbacks of my particularly immature years! I'm usually a fan of Soap and Glory scents, but this one just doesn't float my boat.

When I put on my current favourite Gok body moisturiser, which is a very cinnamon scent, the two scents mingle and create something quite unpleasant!
If Flake Away left my skin unbelievably soft, I might have put up with the negatives, but I really didn't notice a difference after using this product. Although, to be fair, that's probably because I haven't given it enough time.
All in all, a 4/10, I just can't stand the feeling of the film left on my skin.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for body scrubs? I love the scent of the Gok Wan 'Gorgeous' one, but it's basically a wash with a few beads in it, and doesn't really do anything. I've also had a whiff of Soap and Glory The Breakfast Scrub which smells lush-has anyone tried it?

Thanks for reading, hope you are all well!

P.S. Sorry for the stock pic again, I really need to keep a better hold of my camera!

  2. I just got the Soap and Glory 'Scrub Em and Leave Em' sugar scrub and have used it twice and love it. I know it's not much but it seems really good. I use it on dry skin before i get into the shower. I use wet hands and rub it all over dry skin so it gives a REALLY good scrub. Use Soap and Glory 'The Righteous Butter' afterwards and you'll smell delish and super soft. Hope that's some help. x

  6. I wasn't so impressed with it either after I tried it - it smells like those really cheap perfume sets your gran used to buy for xmas haha!

For body scrubs I'd recommend one from asda, it's Hot Fudge scented and it works so well!

  7. Good review. I find Soap & Glory can sometimes be more miss than hit occasionally. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that. My current favourite scrub is Korres Watermelon Body Scrub. Its properly 'scrubby' and has a lovely scent too.

  9. I've got two tubs of this that I received in gift sets but I've only used it once and I have to agree with you! Whilst I liked the thick consistency it feels quite oily to rub on and I actually think my skin felt worse after! And the smell isn't too pleasant at all!
I'd recommend http://www.boots.com/en/Extracts-Fairtrade-Mango-Sugar-Scrub-400ml_998331/ they have a variety of smells such as coco butter and coconut but I liked the mango best!
