Review - Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Skin Protectant

Just a quick review today :)

Recently I've been really enjoying Elizabeth Arden as a brand. I've been using their cleanser, face spf and also lusting after a foundation, and their tinted lip balms. 

If you say 'Elizabeth Arden' to someone, chances are, they will think of the other product I have been loving, the 8 Hour Cream.

This cream is a favourite amongst youtubers/bloggers and celebrities, and rightly so.

This cream is a rusty orange colour, with a very distinctive smell. Some people love the smell, some hate it, I'm not really fussed either way. It's quite a medicinal, clinical smell, but EA have recently brought out a fragrance free version if it does bother you.

A multi purpose product, 8 hour cream can be used on cuticles, dry skin, minor abrasions/scrapes/burns, eyebrows, split ends, spots and lips. I use this the most on lips, it's non sticky formula gives a slight shine, and is the most moisturising product I have used on them.  So, for any other matte lipstick lovers out there, this would be perfect!

Another way that I love to use this, is on my nose! Sounds weird, but hear me out haha!

I seem to be very susceptible to colds, and have really bad hayfever as well, which leads to nose blowing, which leads to a sore, dry nose! 

This is the only product that I can use on my nose in that state, which doesn't sting at all :)

I absolutely love this product, and would recommend it to everyone, even if you only end up using it as  a (admittedly very expensive!) lip balm. This is £25 for 50ml from Boots.com, which I know seems crazy but I really do think it's the worth the price.

Review- MAC Heroine

Evening!

 

I am in love, and I want everyone to know it. Heroine is the most beautiful lipstick ever, in terms of pigmentation, performance and colour.

This lipstick was a recent purchase, Heroine was released as part of the Reel Sexy collection.

Heroine is a Matte finish, but it's not a typical matte at all. It is creamy, doesn't look shiny or glossy, but also doesn't look dry. It is an incredibly comfortable lipstick to wear, it feels almost moisturising, and doesn't dry out the lips at all.

The wear of this lipstick is amazing, as it stains the lips. I wore this on a night out, and had it on for at least 6 hours without needed to re-apply. When I woke up next morning (I was in too much of a drunken state to take my makeup off!), the lipstick was still  there, and was actually quite tricky to remove.

I find this a really wearable shade, as although it is a more unusual colour, it's not particularly bright or dark, and I think it would look beautiful on all skin tones. 

It is opaque, so you don't need to build it up to get decent pigmentation, and it also doesn't need a lip liner as it doesn't bleed.

Unfortunately, Heroine was a limited edition shade and I am kicking myself that I didn't pick up a back up! I've never tried it, but MAC Violetta is supposed to be similar..

Overall, this is an amazing lipstick, and is currently battling with Ruby Woo as my favourite ever lippy.

Did anyone else buy this? Or know of any dupes that I could get for a back up?!

P.S. I am also thinking of expanding my MAC lippy collection after my spending ban, anyone have any recommendations?

 

Review- Revlon Lip Butters

Afternoon :)

The Revlon lip butters have probably been the most talked about product since I started blogging. I didn't buy them when they first came out, because I found £7.99 a bit steep, but when they went into the 3 for 2 offer at Boots, I picked up Tutti Frutti (a bright coral/orange), Lollipop (bright pink with a strong blue undertone) and Candy Apple (a red with an orange tinge).

I've had these for about a month, and have worn them a fair bit. The colour pay off is really good, you can build them up to be quite intense, or put them on lightly and blend into the lips with your finger to give a more subtle wash of colour. 

In terms of pigmentation, I really can't fault these. They're opaque in a few strokes, and last around 3- 4 hours on the lips. They feel nice on the lips, not sticky or drying, and have a nice shiny finish. They also don't feel heavy, or like you're wearing too much, which I expect will be a bonus in the hotter months.

Although some people have said they think they look tacky, I love how these look!

 I think the quilting design is really cute, and It's so handy that the outside matches the colour of the product. When you're fishing around in a sea of black lipstick cases, these are so easy to find!

Tutti Frutti

On the negative side, these do bleed and feather quite alot around the lips. It could probably be sorted using a lipliner, but if I'm going to the trouble of using lipliner, I might as well put on a lipstick that will stay on longer. I bought these thinking they would be really easy to use, not even using a mirror to apply, but that's not really the case. 

Another problem is how these fade. Rather than fading evenly, on my lips these tend to fade quite patchy, often leaving product around the edges, making me look as though I've applied lipliner but nothing else! This means that when I wear these, I have to check it quite regularly, to make sure it still looks okay, which is a bit annoying. If you have dry patches on your lips (like I have in the photos!), the formula of these really clings to them, and makes it obvious.

 My last negative point is the price. Having tried these, I definitely think £7.99 is too expensive for what these are, especially as you have to reapply quite frequently, meaning that they wont last very long.

Lollipop

I like all three of the colours I have, but Lollipop is definitely my favourite, which is strange for me as I'm not much of a pink lips girl! I just love the blue, almost purple undertone to it, and how bright it is!

Tutti Frutti is really great for when you want a more subtle lip look, as it's not actually that bright on, although I've found it to be the worst for clinging to dry patches. 

Lastly, Candy apple, which I thought would have been my most used as it is red. This is actually my least used, mainly because, as much as I love glossy reds on others, I much prefer them matte on myself. I also tend to favour true reds, and this is quite and orange red when it's on.

So overall, I like these, but I don't love them. I don't think they're worth the money, and I would only repurchase if they were on offer (and probably only Lollipop!).

Review- Superdrug BB Cream

Hello!

At the moment, where I live is having an unexpected sunny spell. Although I am anticipating it changing and tipping down soon, I have been thinking about trying more summer appropriate makeup. One thing I really hate is feeling all hot and gross, and having a full face of heavy coverage foundation on. 

I decided to jump on the bandwagon, and try a BB cream! 

I'm sure you've all heard tonnes about BB creams, but if you haven't, I believe the gist of them is that they are a really light coverage cream, which moisturises, and often protects against sun damage.

 As they have a light coverage, they cover blemishes and even out skin tone, without feeling heavy.

Whilst in Superdrug recently, I noticed their new, own brand BB cream was on offer, so I snapped it up!

As you can see, this is way too orange for my skin. When will they create a BB cream for us pale girls?!

I was going to take a picture with this on my face, but I just looked too orange! On the plus side, it smells really nice (like sun tan lotion!), is really moisturising, and very easy to apply.

The coverage is really light, and if I were to wear it out, I would have to use quite alot of concealer under my eyes, on spots and around my nose to cover up the redness.

I wore this for about four hours before I took it off, and it showed no signs of wearing off, not that this product is very noticeable on the skin anyway! This contains some good ingredients, Vitamin C for a radiant glow, Hyaluronic acid to moisturise, caffeine to refresh the skin, and SPF 15.

The other thing I did notice was that in the photographs, the flash seems to make make the BB cream look shimmery on my hand. I'm not sure if that's just my camera, or the product. When I have more time, I will try it on the face again, and photograph to see if it shows up then, because that could be quite a big disadvantage to this product!

So overall, I liked this product, but I'd need it in a lighter shade! Although I would have to use quite a bit of concealer, I did like the finish, the coverage and how easy it was to apply. And the smell!

If you are slightly darker than me, and are after a really light coverage, I would recommend this.

Review- Real Techniques Stippling Brush

Evening guys!

As you probably know (they've been all over blogs!), the Real Techniques brushes were created by one half of the fabulous Pixiwoo sisters, Samantha Chapman.

A while ago, I bought the Stippling brush, from Boots for £11.99.

Real Techniques say  "Create a flawless base with this beautifully designed Stippling brush by Samantha Chapman, which helps you build coverage gradually for an airbrushed, high definition result."

 I've had it for about a month, so have had plenty of time to test it out!

It's a really well made brush, with super soft, dense dual fibre bristles. The bristles are synthetic, so 100% cruelty free, and the brush is cleverly designed so that it can stand alone.

There's alot of hype about stippling brushes being able to create a flawless, airbrushed finish, so I was really excited to try one. 

I've been using it with MAC Studio Sculpt foundation, and applied with a stippling/buffing action. The effect was really beautiful, no patches, no streaks, just a natural, healthyl looking coverage. 

It was super quick, and easy to apply, perfect for when you've overslept and are in a hurry!

Personally, although I love the finish this brush gives, I'm not confident enough to use it on a daily basis, as it's not quite the coverage I need for my far from perfect skin. I am however, really looking forward to using it in the summer when it's hot, and I don't want heavy makeup.

I can't remember where I read it, but I saw someone say that this brush was perfect for blusher. I've been using it to apply my blusher recently, and its amazing! Doesn't pick up too much colour, and when stippled on to the cheeks, gives the most perfect rosy cheek look, and doesn't give the 'stripe of blusher' look that I sometimes accidentally give myself!

Pros

Gives a lovely, lightweight application of foundation

Cruelty free

Doesn't shed hairs

Reasonably priced

Works amazingly for blusher

Cons:

Doesn't give a heavier application of foundation

Uses quite alot of product, when I use my Eco tools foundation brush, I only have to use about half the amount

So, overall this is a fabulous, multi use brush. I'm using it as my go to blusher brush, and when the weather gets hotter, (or my skin gets better!), then I will use it for foundation. As I said above, I do use quite alot of foundation when I apply with this brush, but I'm willing to overlook this for the nice, natural finish!

I've washed it quite a few times, and I haven't noticed any shedding whatsoever.

Has anyone tried this brush? Or have any Real Techniques recommendations? I really want to try the Buffing brush!

Review- Good Things Stop That Spot! Clearing Gel

Good afternoon! 

Firstly, Happy Mothers Day everyone! Hope you all have a nice, relaxing Sunday :)

As some of you may know, I have quite bad skin. It's not as bad as it was a few years ago, and it's not really much of a big deal to me now, but I do tend to always have a few spots on the go, and have lots of scarring from previous spots. 

Because of this, I am always searching for an amazing spot cream. I want one that will get rid of spots, stop spots from appearing, and help fade my scarring...not too much to ask, is it?

I picked up this gel from Boots, just over a month ago, for about a fiver. I'd heard good things about Good Things as a brand, and thought £5 was quite reasonable. 

What I noticed first about this gel, was the smell. Although not an unpleasant smell, (it's just fruity really), it is so, so strong, and quite alcohol-y. I have looked into the ingredients, and it does include alcohol denat.,so maybe that is the reason?

Anyway, it's a strong, fruity scent. I dont tend to like putting strong smelling products on my face, but I perservered with this for the purposes of review! 

In terms of spot clearing, I haven't noticed any major improvements. (It should be noted though, that I've tried numerous spot creams, and none of them have really worked wonders!)

I've used this nearly every night, and most mornings before putting on my makeup. Under makeup, this product works well. It doesn't ball up or peel, or affect the makeup that goes on after it.

It sinks in quickly, leaves skin smooth and the smell doesn't last long. 

Most spot creams dry out my skin, as I tend to be on the dry side anyway, but this one doesn't. 

After about a month of use, the spot clearing gel is running out. There's still a little bit  left, but it's definitely on it's last legs! I've found I now come to look forward to the smell, and the fact that it doesn't dry my skin out.

 

Pros:
Smells quite nice once you're used to it.
Doesn't dry out skin
Works well under makeup

Veggie/vegan

Free from Parabens, animal ingredients and other nasty things

Cons:
Runs out quite quickly
Didn't make much of a difference to my skin
Seems quite pricey at £5 for 15ml. Maybe that's just me being a cheapskate!

Such a strong scent for those who don't like scented products!

So, all in all, I liked this spot cream, but I probably wouldn't buy it again, just because it didn't make much difference to my spots. It is one of the only spot creams I've found that doesn't ball up under foundation though, so I've got to give it some credit for that! Judging by the size, and by how quickly I've gotten through this, I would say this is more suited to someone who only gets an odd spot, and doesn't want to plaster it on their face like I do!

Would I recommend this product? Yes. To people who don't mind strongly scented products, and who only get occassional spots.

Would I repurchase? Probably not, unless it was a really good deal/price, or I needed a spot cream just for under my foundation, not at night. 

Anyone else tried this? Get on with it better than me?

Farewell Friday #2

Hey Guys!

Here's another product I will be saying goodbye to. Unlike my last farewell product, this one isn't pants, it's just run out! The product in question is the Lee Stafford Argan Oil, and I'm really sad to see it go!

My hair isn't in awful condition, but the ends are quite tatty, and I have split ends.

I've had this oil for about 2 months (possibly a bit longer!), and I've been using it on the ends of my hair after I wash it, and before I go to bed.

I found this lasted a while, although I've been testing out a few other hair oils, I'd say I generally used it 4 days out of the week, and definitely prefer it to the Tresemme split end treatment and the Argan Oil Treatment that I've also been trying.

I've noticed a real improvement in the condition of my hair, it's a lot less dry and damaged looking at the ends, but I have used other products so I'm not sure if I can give all the credit to Lee Stafford!

Excuse my dusty fireplace!

Advantages:

• Smells lovely
• Makes the ends of hair smooth, shiny and soft
• Lasts ages, you only need a tiny amount

Disadvantages:

• Seems expensive initially at £11.99 for 50ml,but does last ages
• Can leave hair looking a bit greasy if you use too much.  

Would I repurchase? Definitely. (But i'd probably get it on offer, when it's a bit cheaper or on 3 for 2!)

So, all in all, the best hair oil I've used! A definite 10/10!

I would love to repurchase, but I've got about 3 other hair oils to go through and I'm meant to be on a spending ban! So I'm forcing myself not to buy it :)

Review- Marks and Spencers Ingredients Lemon Hand Butter

Hey guys!

As you may or may not know, I love hand creams! I did a Hand cream collection a while ago, but since then I've found another on that really impressed me, so much so that it made it into my 2011 faves.

The miracle hand cream is by Marks and Spencers, from the 'Ingredients' line. 

Unfortunately I can't find it on the website to link to, I really hope that doesn't mean they've stopped doing it!

I'm going to have a look in store and stock up if I manage to find it!

 It's a beautiful hand cream- slightly greasy but absorbs really quickly. You wake up the next morning with baby soft hands! It's also really nice to rub into nails and cuticles too.

What really makes this special though, is the smell!

It says Lemon scented, but it's also really sweet, and always makes me think of Lemon Cheesake- yum! 

Pros:

• Delicious scent! 
• Makes hands really soft, can be used on nails
• Quickly absorbed 
• Not sure of price as I can't find it on the website (boo!), but I think it was around £3 for 100ml which is really good.
• BUAV approved- animal friendly! 

Cons:

• Slightly greasy, but that only lasts a few minutes!
• Can't find it on the website, so may not be available any more :(

On the whole, fabulous product, fabulous price,  fabulous results!

Anyone got any good hand cream suggestions to add to my ever growing collection? The Burts Bees Banana one is on my list ;)

Mishmash.

Hey guys!

As the title suggests, this is going to be a bit of rambly, all over the place type post! 

First up, a little review! Now, I recently went to the doctors with an awful pain in my back/shoulder blade type area. It hurt whenever I moved, or took a breath, it was just horrible! (Being the slight hypochondriac that I am, I was really paranoid there was a problem with my lungs or something!) 

After a quick examination, the lovely doctor told me that It's probably a trapped nerve under my ribs, as a result of the 7 (yes,7!), weeks I've had this stupid cough/cold! 

So, I was glad it wasn't anything too serious, but annoyed that my ridiculously long cough/cold still seems to be living on, and creating even more problems! Sorry for the moan, but I really am so sick of feeling ill :(

Anyway! Feeling sorry for myself wont help, so on with the review!

Pretty much the only things  that have been easing the pain are painkillers and lovely warm baths :)

This gave me a proper chance to try something I received in my November Glossybox.the Dead Sea Spa Magik Bath Salts.

These are 100% natural, contain no additives and have a whole host of minerals inside them. They can be used to relieve aching joints, and are gentle enough to be used by the most sensitive of skins, including those with dry skin conditions, such as eczema. 

I had only tried a handful of the salts before, so poured the remainer of the packet into my bath to test out. No, as a bath junkie, I am always slightly disappointed with things that don't foam up, smell lovely and change the colour of my bath water! 

The Dead Sea Spa Magik bath salts do none of those things, but they do make a very soothing, relaxing bath and for sensitive skin, I bet they're amazing!

They did relieve some of the ache in my shoulder, but I'm not sure whether that's just because I had a nice hot soak.  For anyone with dry or sensitive skin though, I would highly recommend them.

She's pretty much allergic to anything technological, so her posts are a bit lacking in pictures and stuff at the mo, but I shall be helping her out next week so expect more lovely pics and things!

It literally takes her about half an hour to type a paragraph, bless her!

We're also thinking of setting up a little online shop to sell her bits and bobs, I know theres quite a few of these around anyway, but surely that must mean there's a demand for them? She's got tonnes of different coloured and patterened material etc, so she'd be able to customise them for people!

She's posted about how she's having trouble sewing towelling, so if anyone's got any tips on that can they let her know please :) Thanks very much!

Okay, so the last rambly little bit, I promise! I was just wondering if anyone else has 'The 30 Day Shred'? I bought it the other day, but due to my stupid shoulder haven't been able to do it! It's so annoying, for once I've finally got the time, and the motivation to do, but it hurts too much! 

I tried it once, and I have to say I'm not warming to the woman! I've got one of the Ministry of Music Pump It Up ones, and the man on that is so nice! Maybe I'll alternate between them, so that I don't get too annoyed with the woman!

Has anyone tried the 30 Day Shred? How did it work out for you?

First Impressions- Maybelline One By One Mascara and Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

Hey Guys!

So, I've started noticing recently that whenever it's slightly cold or windy, my eyes to water, and ruin my mascara. It's happened a few times in the last week or so, so I thought I'd buy a waterproof mascara. I've also heard they hold a curl better than normal mascaras- bonus! 

It was 'buy one get one half price' on Maybelline cosmetics in Boots, so as well as the mascara I got the Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner, which I've heard lots of good reviews about, some even saying it's better than the MAC and Bobbi Brown versions!

So, ignoring how massive my nose looks, (and I'm still growing my eyebrows out!), this is a quick pic of both the liner and mascara on. I've never used a gel eyeliner before, and I think felt tip liners will always be my fave, but this did actually impress me! It went on really easily, it only took about 2 minutes. 

Admittedly the liner is a bit uneven on one eye, but that's down to my lack of skill, not the product! The only negative point I noticed is that it doesn't come out black in one swipe, you have to re apply a few times to get a good black line, probably because it's so creamy. 

The brush that came with it was a bit too flexible for me to be as accurate as I wanted. I'd probably use a hard angle brush next time. Which is handy really, as in the six hours since I bought it, I've managed to lose the brush! 

On to the mascara! I'm really fussy when it comes to mascara, pretty much the only ones I've liked have been the Clarins wonderlength and MUA mascara in black. 

I really like the brush on this, it's not one of the bristle type brushes, it's a rubbery, spiky one which I much prefer. 

The mascara works really well at getting each lash, it does start to clump after about 4 or so coats, but I just comb it through after application to separate them. 

I also really like the fact that when you pull the brush out, there's not loads of excess on it.

So, in conclusion, I really like both products. The mascara wasn't outstanding, but did a really nice job of separating my lashes, and kept a curl for the 4 hours that I wore it. 

I also love the brush, it's a great size and really gets every lash.

The liner, although not the blackest, was so easy and quick to use. Obviously I've only tried these once, so It's just a first impressions type of review, I'll be sure to let you know if my opinions change after I've trie them for a bit longer!

Farewell Friday #1

Hey guys!

Another little series I want to start :) I've basically realised I've got far too much makeup, skincare etc clogging up my life (well, my room), so I'm going to throw some out! If I do that, it means I'm allowed to buy new stuff, right?

First up,  L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes mascara. This has a white base coat which is supposed to lengthen the lashes, and a black mascara to add the colour. It's also supposed to create a 'tube' around the individual lash, for an extension effect. Sounds good, ay! Well, It's rubbish.

I tried it out a few times to give it a fair test, but then I just gave up on it! It's an actual nightmare to get off, it says it's easily removed with warm water, lies! 

You literally have to hold a cotton pad soaked in warm water on the eye, then do the same with eye makeup remover, and then you still have to scrub to get it off! 

Not good for the delicate eye area. I do know a few people who like this, so I don't know if it's just my one that is so impossible to get off, or maybe I'm just really impatient!

Anyway, the mascara lasts really well on the eyes (too well infact!), but I found it really clumped up my lashes- and actually made them feel really hard, weird!

It was very black though, and does lengthen quite well.  Back on the negative side, it doesn't add any curl, so the lashes just stick straight out- not a good look!

The brush is quite good though, a nice size that isn't too big to control. I couldn't show you the brush of the first step part because it broke when I tried to open it! Another reason to put it in the bin!

Pro's:

• Very black
• Long lasting
• Lengthens lashes well
• Good size brush

Con's:

• Way too hard to get off!
• Doesn't curl
• Clumps lashes, makes them look pretty spidery
• Makes the lashes feel really hard!
• £11.29 from Boots, which is pretty expensive for a lower end mascara

Would I repurchase? Never.

So, like I said other people seem to really like this, so maybe it's just mine that's not so good!

Soap and Glory Flake Away Review.

Hope you all had an amazing christmas!

Quick review for you here :)

Recently I've been noticing that little bumps have been appearing on my legs and arms, a result of never exfoliating my body! I've got no excuse, I've got a small collection of body scrubs, I'm just too lazy to keep at it for more than a few days! I received a small (50ml) tub of Soap and Glory Flake Away for my birthday and have been using it for a few weeks. Usually I'd have preferred to have been using it for about a month before I made up my mind and did a review- but from the first use I knew how I felt about this product. I hate it.

 

No7 Purifying Sauna Mask Review

No7 is not a brand I can say I know much about, so when I was given a "£5 off No7" voucher recently, I wasn't sure what to use it on (being a bargain lover, the idea of not spending the voucher didn't occur to me, even though there wasn't anything I actually needed!). Having since read quite a few reviews, I would now know to use it on the Quick Thinking 4 in One Wipes, which seem to really impress people. As I am a lover of face masks, and because I had a bit of a spot erruption on my chin at the time, I gravitated to the section which held deep cleaning products. Eventually I settled on the Purifying Sauna Mask, (I am a total sucker for names, and the idea of a sauna mask hooked me straight away!), which was £6 after the voucher discount.

As the mask was self heating, I imagined it would be lovely for opening up my pores, and giving those pesky spots a bit of a seeing to. I have had this product for about a month, and tried it about 7 or so times, so I feel I've given it enough chance to impress me. 
 
Firstly, I'll start with the pros's..

1. Smells nice (Possibly due to the Rosehip oil it contains)
2. It really does feel lovely the way it heats on your skin
3. Would probably work very well on oily skins

Now for the con's (slightly longer list unfortunately)..

1. Quite pricey...even with the voucher, £6 for 75ml seems a lot, and there is no way I would pay the original £11 for it!
2. The heating sensation only lasts for a few seconds
3. The pumice grains in this are quite rough, and it does feel rather like you are sandpapering your face
4. Leaves a chalky residue on the face no matter how you try and take it off 
5. Really dry's the skin, even after the first use my face felt tighter and had dry, flaky patches
6. Doesn't actually help with spots (although, it didn't break me out..)

So, overall, I wasn't impressed, but I can see how this could work for oily skin types. Definitely not worth £11!
